Days after a photo of the bruised buttocks of a C.H. Reeves Junior high school student went viral, Education Director Marcellus said recently that his department is in the processing of assessing the way forward for corporal punishment in public schools.
The student was allegedly beaten by an administrator.
In an exclusive interview with Eyewitness News on Friday, Taylor said, the Ministry of Education is phasing out corporal punishment.
Taylor said while administrators are allowed to spank students, it should always be the last resort. He said he looks forward to the day when more progressive thinking methods of discipline are used in the government schools.
