Bahamian professional boxer Edner Cherry scored a unanimous decision win over Dennis Galarzaon Friday night.
Cherry, who started off sluggish, dominated the second half of the FS1 televised fight from The Armory in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Cherry (37-7-2, 19 KOs) won by scores of 97-93, 96-94 and 96-94 over Galarza (16-3, 9 KOs).
While Galarza pounded Cherry with combinations throughout the early rounds, he appeared to have run out of steam by the sixth round, where Cherry became the aggressor.
Cherry hit Galarza with straight right hand, with just 30 seconds left in the sixth round, and clocked him again with a left hook just before the 10-second bell sounded.
Cherry continued to come back during the seventh round, as Galarza seemed to tire and threw mostly arm punches. An aggressive Cherry bombarded Galarza with power punches over the final 20 seconds of the seventh round.
The 35-year-old remained on the aggressive the next two rounds before closing the fight out strong in the 10th round. Cherry landed several right hands in the round and prevented Galarza from landing much.
Cherry previously lost 12-round unanimous decisions to two-division champions Timothy Bradley and Paulie Malignaggi.
In Friday’s co-main event, Jamal James scored a majority decision over Abel Ramos in their welterweight bout.
