With less than three weeks remaining before the start of the CARIFTA Track and Field Championships, the event’s Local Organizing Committee (LOC) yesterday introduced the event’s sponsors to the general public.
The junior championships will now be known as the 2018 BJ Nottage Flow CARIFTA Games, and will take place in New Providence, from March 30 to April 2, at the Thomas A. Robinson National Stadium.
“The success of any venture of this magnitude comes from a partnership with good corporate sponsors,” said Rosamunde Carey, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the games.
“In just 21 days, we will experience a tsunami wave of different cultures and witness the region’s best athletes competing right here in our backyard.
“The buzz on social media says that this year’s CARIFTA will be the best one to date. We recognize that we could have no success without corporate sponsors. Supporting this event also shows that you understand the benefits of sports tourism and the dollars that will be spent here. This is a perfect embodiment of supporting our youth. We thank our national partners, our gold silver and bronze partners, and also our event sponsors. We also want to take the time out to recognize BTC for coming on as our title sponsor.”
Minister of Youth, Sports and Culture, Michael Pintard, addressed the audience at the national stadium, expressing his gratitude to the sponsors for helping out in an initiative that directly impacts the nation’s youth.
“These games would not be possible without significant financial support,” he said.
“While the government is always behind supporting athletes here in The Bahamas, it is important that we have complete buy-in from the private sector. To all of the sponsors, you have essentially helped us to move the needle in the right direction by coming on board. We are grateful to you for the investment you’ve made. Government funds aren’t enough to support an event of this magnitude, so you are playing a major role.
“Also, I know it is important that there is some economic return from something like this. It is important for us to clearly demonstrate that the money we invest is paying dividends. One example of that is the National High School championships that are taking place. Athletes from all over the country are here for this event, which says a lot for a country this small. It is a great feeder system for CARIFTA. So, when you invest in CAARIFTA, you are investing in an inspirational event as well.”
