Budget to prioritize equity and investment across the country, says OPM

NASSAU, THE BAHAMAS — The Davis administration will present its 2025/2026 National Budget today, with a policy agenda focused on expanding access to infrastructure, services, and economic opportunity throughout the country.

In a statement issued ahead of the budget presentation, the Office of the Prime Minister said the plan “reaffirms the government’s commitment to sustainable, inclusive growth across all islands” and builds on development gains made since 2021.

Under the theme “Expanding Opportunities: Island by Island,” the budget is expected to direct spending toward infrastructure, education, healthcare, digital innovation, and economic empowerment, while advancing initiatives to support job creation, small businesses, and resilient communities.

The government emphasized that the upcoming fiscal year will continue efforts to ensure that “every Bahamian, regardless of location, has access to opportunity, resources, and meaningful advancement,” and that growth will be “not concentrated, but shared — island by island, community by community.”

Economic Affairs Minister Senator Michael Halkitis has recently stated that no new taxes are expected in the upcoming budget. He noted that the administration has absorbed the revenue impact of the VAT reduction on unprepared food items and intends to maintain existing relief measures while continuing investment in key sectors.
