BTC unveils new logo as company aims to become broadband leader

NASSAU, BAHAMAS — Highlighting plans to leverage its fibre infrastructure and expand home coverage on New Providence to 90 percent in nine months, Bahamas Telecommunications Company (BTC) unveiled a new logo at the Baha Mar Resort yesterday.

The company during an all-team meeting unveiled its new corporate brand identity as executives spoke to the shift in the company’s focus to becoming the leading broadband provider.

BTC’s chief executive officer Sameer Bhatti speaking on the sidelines of the event said: “Our focus is on bringing fibre technology to this area, offering high-speed internet connections, supporting current and future use cases that we can’t even imagine yet. This milestone is both symbolic for our company and our country, as it will enable tremendous opportunities going forward.

“We want to undertake this transformation in a way that respects our heritage and acknowledges our roots at BTC,” Bhatti continued. “While we remain BTC, we are also leading the way with advanced capabilities and future experiences through our fibre infrastructure. The future of broadband lies in the blazing speed of BTC’s fibre network.”

He further noted: “We’ve moved beyond the point where 5 megabits per second is sufficient for home internet, as it can only support a single HD Netflix stream. A 4K stream requires 15 megabits per second, and an 8K stream demands 50 megabits per second. The average American household has 22 connected devices, and as we enter the gigabit era, we need a network that can meet these demands. Fibre is the ideal choice to build such a network.

BTC said that its network currently has 80 percent coverage on New Providence.

The company first introduced its fibre-to-the-home technology in the country back in In 2016 and is pushing to complete our fibre roll-out in New Providence and Grand Bahama in the coming months.

The company has also made strides in Abaco and will make an announcement from that island in the coming weeks.
