NASSAU, BAHAMAS — BTC, and C&W Communications joined the global movement recognizing the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence (GBV). In support of the initiative, BTC donated to the Bahamas Crisis Center to assist in their efforts to provide relief to individuals affected by GBV.
Director of the Bahamas Crisis Center, Dr. Sandra Dean-Patterson, expressed her gratitude for BTC’s contribution.
“I am truly grateful for the recognition of The Bahamas Crisis Center by BTC,” she remarked.
“We respond to cries and stories of many abused women and children, and this donation will aid us in providing the greatest possible support to these individuals. We provide a 24-hour clinic that helps women fleeing abusive situations and children who have witnessed or suffered abuse. So again, we thank BTC for this donation, especially during this holiday season.”
BTC’s parent company, Liberty Latin America, also reaffirmed its commitment to combating GBV, aligning with its comprehensive GBV policy. This policy includes resources for employees affected by GBV, such as counseling, leave from work, relocation, and legal support.
C&W Communications, which operates BTC, Flow, and other brands, has launched various initiatives to raise awareness, promote advocacy, and support survivors of GBV across the Caribbean.
“We believe every individual has the right to live and work in a safe environment, free from violence and fear,” said Inge Smidts, Chief Executive Officer of C&W Communications. “Tragically, we’ve lost colleagues to acts of gender-based violence in recent years, a loss that has deeply affected us all. These heartbreaking events have only strengthened our resolve to take meaningful action.”
“Our commitment extends beyond raising awareness; it is about taking real, actionable steps to protect, empower, and create safe spaces for everyone, particularly women and girls, within our communities and workplaces. Together, we can drive the change needed to eliminate violence and foster equality for generations to come,” said Smidts.
The 16 Days of Activism Against GBV is an annual observance from November 25 to December 10. This year, it marks a powerful opportunity to reinvigorate global commitments to ending violence against women and girls, especially as the world approaches the 30th anniversary of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action in 2025.
