NASSAU, BAHAMAS — Bahamas Power and Light (BPL) officials expect to restore power to communities in Marsh Harbour, Abaco in the coming weeks, according to a statement yesterday.
Infrastructure in Marsh Harbour and other portions of Abaco was stripped by Hurricane Dorian in early September.
The power company said it expected to energize the rebuilt transmission line from the Wilson City Power Station to a newly built temporary substation at the Marsh Harbour Power Station on Saturday.
Electricity has been restored in south Abaco from the Wilson City Power Station to Sandy Point, and in north Abaco, from Cooper’s Town to Crown Haven, the release stated.
BPL said teams were working from Cooper’s Town south to Black Woods, where power is expected to be restored in two weeks.
Those teams were expected to continue working south to Treasure Cay Ferry Terminal, where a temporary power station is expected to power Green Turtle Cay within three weeks.
BPL said it was extremely grateful to the Caribbean Electric Utility Services Corporation and the teams from the British Virgin Islands and Belize, which assisted with the effort to restore power to consumers in North Abaco.
“They had been in The Bahamas as part of the response by the Caribbean Electric Utility Services Corporation (CARILEC) to the call put out by The Bahamas after part s of the country were ransacked by Hurricane Dorian in early September,” BPL said.
New Providence
Meanwhile, scores of Bahamas Power and Light (BPL) customers in portions of western New Providence were left powerless yesterday afternoon due to “technical difficulties”.
In a statement, BPL explained the outage was caused by a circuit trip.
The areas reportedly affected included Prospect North, and portions of Prospect Ridge, though there were reports of outages in other surrounding areas.
BPL said technicians were dispatched to investigate and address the issue.
