The Bahamas men’s beach soccer team will look to improve its world ranking in the next few days when the country hosts the inaugural Bahamas Beach Soccer Cup.
The beach cup takes place April 27-29, at the Bahamas Football Association’s (BFA) National Beach Soccer Stadium at Malcolm Park.
Competing teams include Mexico, Spain and the United States (U.S.).
Team Bahamas’ roster for this tournament is made up by Gavin Christie, Lesy St. Fleur, Nesly Jean, Julio Jemison, Daron Beneby, James Thompson, Dwayne Forbes and Kyle Williams.
Roberto Ceciliano will serve as the team’s head coach.

The first game of the tournament features the U.S. against Spain at 6:00 p.m., while The Bahamas takes on Mexico at 7:15 p.m.
As it stands now, Team Bahamas is ranked No. 39 in the world. Spain is the highest ranked team in the tournament at No.11 overall, Mexico is 15 and is the highest-ranked team in the CONCACAF (Confederation of North, Central American and Caribbean Association Football) region, while the U.S. checks in at 31.
A win over any one of the visiting teams should give the Bahamas a bump in the world rankings along with considerable ranking points.
Team Bahamas defeated the U.S. back in 2016 in a friendly in Europe while the team prepared for last year’s Beach Soccer World Cup. The Bahamas also played Mexico in a friendly last year but fell 3-2.
The Bahamas went into the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup ranked at No. 48 in the world, according to the Beach Soccer Worldwide official rankings. They played in a group that included then No. 7 Switzerland, No. 11 Senegal and No. 20 Ecuador. Team Bahamas narrowly lost to Switzerland, 3-2; suffered a brutal 10-1 loss to Senegal; and got past Ecuador, 4-1.
