NASSAU, BAHAMAS – A high-level delegation, comprising all key agencies, is currently in discussions with SpaceX officials as The Islands of The Bahamas prepare for the historic landing of a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket booster on February 17.
This landmark event will make The Bahamas the first international destination to host Falcon 9 rocket booster landings.
Taking place off the coast of The Exumas, the event marks a significant milestone for The Bahamas, positioning the nation at the forefront of the burgeoning space tourism industry according to a statement by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Tourism, Investments and Aviation Chester Cooper.
The collaborative efforts between Bahamian authorities and SpaceX highlight the country’s strategic role as a key player in space exploration. A total of 20 scheduled landings are set to occur in Bahamian waters on autonomous drone ships, with The Bahamas serving as the exclusive location to witness these extraordinary events. This development presents unique economic prospects and opportunities for technological advancement.
The delegation includes senior officials from the Royal Bahamas Defence Force, the Bahamas Air Navigation Services Authority, the Department of Environmental Planning and Protection, and the Port Department. These experts will remain on-site throughout the launch and ascent phases, ensuring that all safety, regulatory, and operational protocols are meticulously followed.
