Bahamas draws with Anguilla 1-1

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – A frustrating result for The Bahamas over the weekend in its third match of the Confederation of North, Central American and Caribbean Association Football (CONCACAF) Nations League.

At home, The Bahamas drew with Anguilla 1-1, coming up short of a much-needed victory.

The Bahamas is trying to qualify to get into one of the top groups of the 2019 CONCACAF Nations League. Subsequently, not picking up a win over the weekend eliminated team Bahamas from qualifying for the 2019 CONCACAF World Cup, the 15th edition of the three-week tournament.

Teams are awarded three points for a victory in the qualifying process for the 2019 CONCACAF Nations League.

On Saturday, Glenville Rogers scored in the 30th minute for Anguilla. Bahamas veteran Nesly Jean was able to respond with a goal of his own in the 60th minute to tie the game.

“I think we put forth enough effort to pick up three points and win the game, but we didn’t close the door,” said Bahamas coach Dion Godet. “We put forward a better effort in this game than the two games prior, but we didn’t finish them off.”

The Bahamas is now ranked at No. 34 out of 41 member nations in this region and 210 in the world.
