Bahamas CPI holds steady in September 2024, reflecting stable inflation

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – The Consumer Price Index (CPI) for September 2024 remained unchanged from August, reflecting stable inflation despite fluctuations in key categories, according to the Bahamas National Statistical Institute.

In September 2024, the monthly inflation rate in The Bahamas remained steady compared to August, following a 0.1 percent increase between July and August. Significant price increases were observed in furnishings, household equipment, and routine maintenance (3.7 percent), restaurants and hotels (0.6 percent), and miscellaneous goods and services (0.5 percent). However, decreases were noted in food and non-alcoholic beverages (1.6 percent), health (0.9 percent), and education (0.4 percent).

When compared to September 2023, the Consumer Price Index (CPI), which measures the average change in prices paid by consumers for a basket of goods and services, declined by 0.8 percent. Major contributors to this decrease included communication (5.9 percent), transport (3.7 percent), clothing and footwear (2.5 percent), and restaurants and hotels (2.5 percent). In contrast, September 2023 saw price increases in categories such as furnishings, household equipment, and routine maintenance (4.9 percent), alcoholic beverages (4.3 percent), health (3.5 percent), and miscellaneous goods and services (2.6 percent).
