NASSAU, BAHAMAS — Baha Mar said its still monitoring the evolving situation regarding COVID-19 locally as well as in its key markets.
The resort told Eyewitness News it wants meet its planned October reopening but its final decision will be guided by the actions and travel regulations of the government, as well as global travel restrictions.
The mega resort has postponed its reopening until October, telling staff back in June that the decision was based on many variables as a result of the “evolving nature” of COVID-19.
In a statement, the resort said, “Baha Mar along with all its associates is looking forward to reopening the resort and welcoming guests, as soon as it can be done in a safe and sustainable way. While it is our desire to meet our planned October opening, the well-being of our teams, community and guests is our highest priority.”
It added: “We are actively monitoring the evolving situation regarding COVID 19 in The Bahamas as well as our key markets and will let our final decision and reopening date be guided by the actions and travel regulations put forward by the Government of The Bahamas and global policies and restrictions.”
The country’s tourism industry has been severely impacted by the global COVID-19 pandemic, with travel restrictions and fears of the virus effectively bringing travel to a halt.
Most major properties have decided to forego their reopening until the Fall when the industry will hopefully begin to see some activity.
