Wholesalers and retailers asked to remove product from shelves
NASSAU, BAHAMAS – A recall on canned Del Monte Fiesta Corn, seasoned with red and green peppers, was issued on Thursday by the Ministry of Agriculture and Marine Resources.
The recall came as a result of an international recall from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) who reported Wednesday that Del Monte Foods Inc. announced a limited recall of 64,242 cases of canned Fiesta Corn.
The recall is due to under processing, according to FDA reports.
If consumed, officials warn that it could potentially be life-threatening.
To date, there have been no reports of illnesses associated with this product and no other production codes of Del Monte canned products have been implicated in this recall.
The Bahamas was one of the 12 international locations to which this product has been exported.
All wholesalers and retailers have been asked to remove the product from their shelves as it is not to be sold to the public.
Consumers who may have purchased the canned product are asked to discard it or return it with the receipt to the merchant for a refund.
The corn recall came on the heels of an international recall on Romaine lettuce.
The red flag on the leafy green was raised back on November 20.
Reports suggested that Romaine lettuce was linked to an outbreak of E.coli.
Researches confirmed that the strain of the outbreak in November is different than the one linked to contaminated romaine earlier this year but appears similar to last year’s outbreak linked to leafy greens.
U.S. and local officials have given no indication when the recall on fiesta corn will be lifted.
