NASSAU, BAHAMAS: The Eleuthera Chamber of Commerce has thrown its support behind a proposed $200-$250 million boutique luxury hotel and residential development in Governor’s Harbour, saying the Bahamian-led project could create significant opportunities for local businesses and employment in Central Eleuthera.
Myles Ahead Ltd. is proposing to develop the roughly 93-acre former Club Med property into a 5-star boutique resort featuring a 40- to 60-key hotel and up to 100 residences. The development is expected to generate approximately 250 construction jobs at peak and around 165 permanent, full-time positions once completed.
The Chamber’s endorsement follows an August 6 community town hall hosted by the developer, with Eleuthera Chamber of Commerce President Thomas Sands welcoming what he described as early engagement with residents and stakeholders.
“As the Chamber of Commerce, we are glad to see an experienced Bahamian-led team bringing this kind of investment to Governor’s Harbour, Eleuthera, and that they are starting the conversation with the community early,” said Sands. “From what I heard and saw, a project like this has the potential for real opportunity for local businesses, and we look forward to the continued engagement as it moves forward.
“We are encouraged that the developer has committed to supporting commerce initiatives and fund-raising efforts to execute those efforts.”
Beyond the resort itself, Myles Ahead has outlined plans to partner with Bahamian training institutions, local schools and hospitality partners to develop apprenticeships and long-term career pathways for Eleutherans.
The company has also committed to sourcing Bahamian-made products and services during both the construction and operational phases of the development. Its plans include mentorship, hospitality-readiness training and preferred-vendor pathways aimed at helping local businesses secure opportunities generated by the resort.
In response to feedback from the Governor’s Harbour community, the developer has also committed to several community projects, including a playground, dock and ramp access, and fencing improvements at Cupid’s Cay. The company said it intends to continue discussions with residents to identify additional initiatives.
Anthony Myers, a Bahamian entrepreneur and one of the project’s lead partners, said the Chamber’s backing reflects the type of relationship the developer wants to establish with the community.
“Support like this from the Chamber means a great deal to us,” said Myers. “It reflects exactly the kind of partnership we’re hoping to build with this community as the project moves forward. As we continue our engagement and learn more about the community’s expectations, we intend to provide greater details on our commitments.”
