Young driver dies in collision; cyclist succumbs to injuries in separate incidents

NASSAU, BAHAMAS- A tragic accident occurred near the intersection of Western Road and Nelson Road, resulting in the death of a young man in his early twenties. Chief Superintendent Eugene Strachan, Officer in Charge of the Traffic Division, reported that a black Suzuki Swift and a white Honda Accord were both traveling northbound on Western Road.

The collision happened when the Honda Accord attempted a turn onto Nelson Street while the Suzuki Swift was trying to overtake. The impact caused the Swift to overturn, and the male driver was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency medical services.

Strachan noted that the driver of the Accord, a woman believed to be in her 60s, was transported to the hospital and is currently receiving treatment for her injuries.

In a separate incident, Strachan also reported the death of a male cyclist who succumbed to injuries sustained in an accident on Sunday afternoon. The crash occurred around 1 a.m. on Infantview Road, off Nassau Road. The cyclist lost control of his motorcycle and collided with a wall. He was taken to the hospital but later died from his injuries.

This brings the total number of traffic fatalities this year to 39, according to Eyewitness News records.
