I don’t believe its a wise decision to open The Bahamas based upon the Reopening of the US. The Bahamas as a small nation. Must I people that a lot of their states “forced” the reopening and totally disregarded the impact of Covid19 in various States, with countless deaths happening and over crowded hospitals people should a lack of concern to the sacrifices of their own healthcare workers and in my opinion the priority should be to giving a greater concern to focus on rebuilding and self generation within our own economy to be able to sustain itself. Our population is a fraction of theirs and our people with a higher health risk (pre-existing conditions) should consider their disregard in their own country as the same they will show to us, whilst possibly wiping out our little nation. Bahamians should ask themselves is it worth making a quick dollar before its time?

Testing management and phased re-opening of the economy is recommended by WHO. I suggest travel borders should be part of the end phases of re-opening. Each country, including the United States is a unique model in the novel pandemic. The Bahamas re-opening plan should provide assurance of adequate effective control measures for limiting contact spread in entry ports and other work places, e.g. equipment and procedure for social distance, regular sanitization, temperature monitoring and Testing options easily available. The goal is not to live in lockdown but to use the lockdown time to develop a local unique re- opening plan that works for the well being of Bahamians. To this point it seems only politicians and health officials have been in the process of monitoring and decision making on the COVID 19 response. Perhaps it’s possible now to broaden the scope of decision makers to consider inclusion of other business and Civic professionals joining the politicians and health professionals to present a reasonable workable plan of stages suitable to re-opening for the Bahamas.
