Wendy’s wins appeal to move forward with new P.I. restaurant

NASSAU, BAHAMAS- Psomi Holdings, the corporate entity behind the transformation of a former Scotiabank branch into a combined Wendy’s and Marco’s Pizza eatery, has prevailed in what it described as a “long and hard-fought battle” to go ahead with its development.

Attorney Gail Lockhart Charles KC said in a statement on behalf of her client: “This has been a long and hard-fought battle. We faced aggressive and persistent opposition from Atlantis and Sterling, who refused to accept that the planning permission obtained by my clients was valid.”

She continued: “We are very pleased that the Subdivision and Development Appeal Board has found that the arguments advanced by Atlantis and Sterling lacked merit, and the Appeal Board has dismissed the appeals challenging the Wendy’s & Marco’s Pizza Town Planning permission. The dismissal of these appeals clears the way for Wendy’s to construct its beautiful new restaurant on Paradise Island on the site of the old Scotiabank building.” The proposed establishment is said to have the potential to create between 75 to 100 jobs.

She noted that Wendy’s has been operating its state-of-the-art Wendy’s branded Mobile Kitchen while the appeals were running their course.

“The support for the mobile kitchen has been phenomenal. Now that the appeals have finally been dismissed, Wendy’s is delighted that it can move forward with its plans to renovate the former Scotiabank Paradise Island site that it purchased several years ago and construct its beautiful new Bahamian-owned and operated restaurant on the premises,” she concluded.

Paradise Island resort has voiced objections to the Wendy’s and Marco’s Pizza franchise owners’ plans to convert the former Scotiabank building into a fast-food restaurant. They argued that allowing the development of these two restaurants would open the floodgates to other fast-food restaurants on Paradise Island, damaging the overall Paradise Island brand, hindering future tourism growth, affecting local food vendors, and exacerbating parking and traffic issues
