UB line staff protest stalled salary increase

NASSAU, BAHAMAS -For a third time in seven months, scores of University of The Bahamas workers stood in protest Thursday morning to address grievances they have concerning outstanding monies which their union president Kimsley Ferguson said should have been issued to them in 2007 through a salary review.

Thursday morning’s protest came months after workers initially protested in January; the group of disgruntled staffers also held and second protest May.

Ferguson insisted that he and his team continue to be given the cold shoulder by UB executives as it relates to salary review concerns.

He further accused UB executives of being “ very selective. They rate one category of workers above the other.”

Ferguson suggested that the Bahamas Tertiary Educators Union had its issues addressed, however he has argued that line-staff, which is represented by the Bahamas Public Services Union, are still waiting in limbo.

After three demonstrations this year, Ferguson warned that diplomatic efforts have been exhausted.
