50 Haitian migrants apprehended, deported over the weekend
Also in crime, Royal Bahamas Defense Force (RBDF) marines, in a joint effort with the United States Coast Guard (USCG) over the weekend, apprehended and repatriated some 50 Haitian migrants who were discovered on a 60-foot Haitian sloop in the southern Bahamas Friday.
The sloop, which was first spotted by a USCG aircraft, was intercepted by RBDF marines and a USCG cutter, some 60 miles west of Inagua.
The USCG vessel was able to retrieve 50 migrants before the sloop entered Cuban territorial waters, where it was intercepted by Cuban authorities.
Authorities said the apprehended migrants were repatriated to Haiti by that vessel.
