Two men killed in Eleuthera after vehicle crashes into a tree, erupts into flames

NASSAU, BAHAMAS — Police on the island of Eleuthera are investigating a fatal crash that tragically claimed the lives of two adult males. The incident occurred at approximately 1 am on Saturday, April 27, 2024.

Preliminary reports indicate that the four occupants of a vehicle were traveling north along King’s Highway in Upper Bouge-Eleuthera, just north of the Glass-Window Bridge, when the driver allegedly lost control of the vehicle, resulting in a collision with a tree. The impact caused the vehicle to erupt in flames, from which the two rear-seat passengers managed to escape, but the driver and front-seat passenger were unable to do so.

Responders from the island’s volunteer fire services promptly arrived at the scene, extinguishing the blaze and subsequently discovering the charred remains of the driver and front-seat passenger.

The two surviving rear-seat passengers were airlifted to New Providence for further medical evaluation and treatment.

In response to the severity of the incident, the Serious Accident Reconstruction Team (SART) from the Traffic Division in New Providence will be dispatched to Eleuthera to conduct a comprehensive investigation into the circumstances surrounding this tragic crash.

This article is not correct in stating that it was the two people in the front seats that perished. It was the two people in the rear of the vehicle that did not escape from the burning vehicle. Very likely airbags played a part in the survival of the people in the front seats.

Very sad.
