Tsavoussis, Bayles win amateur golf titles

Bahamas Golf Federation (BGF) President Lynford Miller has announced that The Bahamas now has two new amateur golf champions in the male and female divisions. After four grueling rounds in the BGF’s Royal Fidelity National Amateur Championships, played at Lyford Cay, Albany, Royal Blue and the Ocean Club golf courses, Paul Tsavoussis and Jenna Bayles emerged as the new champions.

Tsavoussis battled over the four days with two-time defending champion Richard Gibson Jr. and Nadario Ferguson, winning by three strokes. He had a gross score of 299. Gibson and Ferguson finished second and third with scores of 302 and 306 respectively.

In the Ladies Division, Bayles led from day one and never looked back, winning with a gross score of 326. Last year’s champion, Ashley Michel, was second with 338 and A’marie Smith finished third with a score of 351.

The President’s Cup, which was contested over the last two days of the national amateur championships, was won by Ted Adderley with a net score of two-under par 142 or 2 under par. He defeated Heathcliffe Kane, who also shot 142, on the count back. Dwight Tinker finished third at 143.

Miller said that he was happy with the participation which increased from last year, and thanked all players for their support, especially those from Freeport, Grand Bahama, Abaco and Exuma, who came in especially for this event. Miller also extended special thanks and appreciation to the title sponsor Royal Fidelity as well as the management and staff of Lyford Cay, Albany, Royal Blue and the Ocean Club golf courses. He also thanked Sands Beer for their support.

Miller won the mid amateurs and he was followed by Mark Carter. Peter McIntosh prevailed in the Seniors Division, and he was followed by Horace Miller. The Super Seniors winner was Raymond Gibson and Diminique Lefevre came in second. The Ladies Senior winner was Yvonne Maissen and she was followed by Kika Borghese.

Scores from this event will automatically be included in the Sands Beer Cup Series. The next event on the calendar is the Great Exuma Classic, set for July 13.
