NASSAU, BAHAMAS — J. Kwasi Thompson, Member of Parliament for East Grand Bahama, is calling on the Grand Bahama Power Company to address ongoing service issues that have left residents frustrated after experiencing frequent and prolonged power outages.
In a letter addressed to the company, Thompson voiced the concerns of his constituents, noting that the outages have been occurring without warning and have severely disrupted the community.
“We have encountered several issues that have not only been inconvenient but have also raised serious concerns about the dependability of your service,” Thompson wrote.
He detailed the impact of the outages, some of which have lasted for hours, saying they have caused “inconvenience and resulted in financial losses.”
Thompson also took issue with the company’s communication, describing it as inadequate. “We have not received satisfactory responses or timely updates regarding these issues. The prolonged delays in addressing these concerns have been extremely vexing,” he stated.
In his letter, the MP called on the power company to “take immediate and concrete steps” to resolve the ongoing problems, adding that his constituents, who are paying customers, deserve better.
“You must take immediate and concrete steps to address these problems. We call upon you to provide a clear plan to prevent future occurrences,” he urged.
Additionally, Thompson underscored that the current state of service justifies opposition to any proposed rate hikes. “This is another reason why the electricity rate should NOT be increased,” he emphasized.
Thompson concluded by urging the company to treat the matter with urgency and to restore public confidence in its ability to deliver reliable service.
