Teen boys electrocuted in traffic mishap

Two Jack Hayward High school students who were expected to return to the classroom today, died on Sunday morning after they were electrocuted during a traffic accident, authorities in Grand Bahama said.

Police said the freak accident happened shortly after 4 a.m., when the boys were driving in a black Ford Escape, with four other male passengers.

The driver of the vehicle, according to police, crashed into a utility pole, sending the pole careening into a fence.

Police said the down lines from the pole caused the fence to become “live”. The two victims, upon exiting the crashed vehicle, touched the fence and were electrocuted. Police said they died on scene

Education Minister Jeff Lloyd expressed his sympathy for the family of the victims and said the entire education community is saddened by the loss.

Investigations are said to be ongoing.
