Swift action by beach vendor saves tourist drowning

NASSAU, BAHAMAS — Swift action by an alert beach vendor on Paradise Island helped save a 65-year-old female tourist from drowning on Sunday, according to police.

According to reports, sometime after 1 pm, a female visitor was seated on the shoreline of Cabbage Beach when an unexpectedly strong wave swept her into the water, causing her to be briefly submerged. The quick-thinking vendor promptly intervened, retrieving the victim and returning her to the shoreline. Moments later, Emergency Medical Services (EMS) arrived and provided immediate medical assistance.

The woman, a passenger aboard a cruise vessel, returned to the ship, where she received further assistance from the onboard medical doctor.
