Director and Chief Executive Officer of The Bahamas Chamber of Commerce and Employers Confederation (BCCEC) Edison Sumner said it is a bad move for the government to purchase the Grand Lucayan hotel.

In an exclusive interview with Eyewitness News Friday, Sumner questioned why the government did not choose to find another buyer for the distressed property, or even open the bid to local buyers.

Minister of Tourism Dionisio D’Aguilar, however, noted that purchasing the hotel may be the only way that the government will be able to save the Grand Bahamian economy.
