Former tourism minister Obie Wilchcombe – who said he worked tirelessly to promote Sports Tourism in The Bahamas under the former administration – spoke out against the government’s decision to drop the IAAF World Relays from its 2019 roster of events.
In a phone interview with Eyewitness News Friday, Wilchcombe said that the government cannot drop the ball after three successful IAAF events. The former minister said that id funding is an issue, there is still time to obtain the necessary sponsorship to host the event.
Wilchcoinsistedited that the country cannot pay for the exposure gained from the last three IAAF World Relays held here.
He said building the sports tourism brand was critical for the country, particularly as it was still on economic rebound.
