August 10 is the new deadline for shantytown residents to vacate their homes according to Minister of Labour Dion Foulkes.

The initial deadline was July 31.

Meanwhile, some 50 dozens of families in shanty towns – namely of Golden Isles and Bacardi Road – have decided to take legal action against the government’s shanty town shutdown initiative.

Defending the group is Rights Bahamas and Fred Smith, QC, who accused the government of taking shortcuts throughout the process

The group is expecied to move forward with filing the class action suit this week.
