Eleuthera bridge to close
A severe weather advisory has been issued for the entire Bahama island chain by the Bahamas Department of Meteorology late yesterday.
The weather event is expected to potentially impact to such a degree that Eleuthera’s Glass Window Bridge is being shuttered through Tuesday.
According to the statement issued, large and dangerous swells associated with a low pressure system off the East coast of the United States are expected to impact the more easterly islands of The Bahamas by Saturday afternoon.
Mariners are urged to exercise extreme caution from Saturday, March 3 through Tuesday, March 6.
Beachgoers are also asked to stay out the water due to battering waves and dangerous rip currents, especially high tides.
Motorists on the island of Eleuthera are asked to cease using the Glass Window Bridge once the swells arrive.
The swells are expected to reach their peak amplitudes between Sunday, March 4 and Monday, March 5.
