Warren Saunders became the latest Bahamian to garner a professional baseball contract, signing with the New York Mets organization on Wednesday in Nassau.
The Grand Bahama native is a product of the International Elite (I Elite) Sports Academy. He will now await his farm league assignment from the team. Prior to training with I Elite, Saunders played middle field for the Linsly High School, located in West Virginia.
“Warren truly persevered until he was able to make it happen,” said I Elite co-founder Geron Sands. “Not one day he was down, every day we talked and I just let him know that he has to keep it going. We got a call yesterday from the Mets saying that they wanted Warren to be a part of the organization. Warren is a tremendous athlete and a great person. He’s mannerly, respectful and helpful. I also think he’s a great ambassador for this country and the program.
“We have a few other guys from Grand Bahama coming on stream as well in the near future. It was a pleasure having Warren with us over the course of the past few months.”
