Graduate senior Mavin Saunders recorded his first collegiate touchdown on Saturday for the Kansas Jayhawks in a 38-22 loss to No. 6 ranked West Virginia.
Saunders made the highlight play in the first quarter of the game on an 18-yard pass from Peyton Bender. Saunders’ reception was the first to any Jayhawk tight end this season.
Although Kansas forced four turnovers for the third time this season, it was a turnover on special teams late in the fourth quarter that proved to be critical for the Jayhawks, keeping the momentum in West Virginia’s favour.
Following a bye week, Kansas will remain on the road for a game at Texas Tech on Saturday, October 20.
After posting career-highs in receptions (10) and total yards (182) in the 2016-17 season, Saunders went without a catch last season.
He elected to transfer to Kansas in the off-season. Seeing that he was a graduate transfer, Saunders was eligible to play right away.
