Bimini native and former Kansas University Jayhawk Mavin Saunders will have a chance to earn a spot on a National Football League (NFL) roster in the coming days.
Over the weekend, Saunders was invited to the Cleveland Browns’ rookie mini-camp tryout as an undrafted free agent. The camp runs May 3-5.
The tryout with the Browns is just one of three rookie mini-camp invitations that Saunders received following last week’s NFL draft. He also received invites from the Houston Texans and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
“They called my agent immediately after the draft,” Saunders said about the invitations. “It felt great knowing that all the hard work paid off, looking forward to put the work in to keep going.”
In his lone season at Kansas as a graduate transfer, Saunders played in nine games and made four receptions for 32 yards, including an 18-yard touchdown. Playing with the Jayhawks, Saunders caught his first collegiate touchdown last October in a 38-22 loss to West Virginia.
Prior to transferring to Kansas, Saunders played three seasons at Florida State University (FSU). His stats at FSU included 16 receptions for 234 yards.
