NASSAU, BAHAMAS — Royal Caribbean International has announced the return of its Artist Discovery Program, offering Caribbean artists an opportunity to feature their work aboard its newest cruise ship, Star of the Seas. The vessel, set to debut in August 2025, will include a curated art collection showcasing the talent and culture of the region.
Local artists from across the Caribbean can submit their work for consideration until February 15. Selected artists will be commissioned to create large-scale murals in key locations on Star of the Seas, including the Royal Promenade, embarkation area, and Suite Sundeck.
Jay Schneider, chief product innovation officer at Royal Caribbean International, noted the success of last year’s program, which featured over 140 artists from 25 Caribbean countries. “Our goal is to connect our guests to the enduring beauty and creativity of the Caribbean,” Schneider said.
Participating artists will receive grants ranging from $20,000 to more than $100,000 to complete their projects. They will also work closely with Royal Caribbean’s team to bring their concepts to life at the shipyard in Turku, Finland.
Notable artists from previous editions include Bahamian artist Angelika Wallace-Whitfield, along with Phillipe Dodard of Haiti and Jason Hospedales of Trinidad & Tobago. Their work is currently displayed aboard Icon of the Seas.
When Star of the Seas launches from Port Canaveral, Florida, it will sail year-round on seven-night Eastern and Western Caribbean itineraries, making stops at destinations including Perfect Day at CocoCay in The Bahamas, Cozumel, Mexico, and St. Kitts & Nevis.
Royal Caribbean has stated that future editions of the Artist Discovery Program will be announced at a later date.
