Minister of Youth, Sports and Culture Lanisha Rolle yesterday honored the CARIFTA teams that represented The Bahamas abroad over the Easter holiday weekend.
The CARIFTA swim team finished first with a total of 73 medals, while track and field and water polo both finished second at their respective events.
Rolle said that the athletes helped to take the Bahamas’ reputation as a hot bed for athletic talent to another level.
“This little dot that people see on the map became a lot bigger in the world’s eyes thanks to you athletes,” Rolle said. “Despite our size, we continue to produce good results on the international scene. You did a good job representing the country. You showed that we are a people that believe in doing our best and giving our best effort. And you secured our spot as an international sports powerhouse.
