NASSAU, BAHAMAS — The Royal Bahamas Defence Force (RBDF) Harbour Patrol Unit (HPU) recently donated to the non-profit support group Lupus 242.
On May 14, in a short presentation led by Senior Lieutenant Byron McClain, commanding Officer of the HPU Unit, officers and marines of the unit presented cases of water and fruits to Shonalee Johnson, vice president of Lupus 242, to assist in their fight against lupus in The Bahamas.
Senior Lieutenant McClain said the Harbour Unit wanted to make a donation to a non-profit organization and a cause they had not given to before.
“We (The Bahamas) have a lot of persons that are living with Lupus and we know it’s a struggle, so we decided to contribute to Lupus 242,” he said.
“We know that the fight against lupus is ongoing as there is no cure yet, so we donated some fruits and water to them to assist them in their efforts as a small token of our appreciation for their work.”
Johnson also took the time to express her thoughts and gratitude for the timely donation.
“Because we are still in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic, we are pleased to partner with the Royal Bahamas Defence Force for our virtual Fun Run Walk (held May 15th),” she said.
“This is the first time that we will have a virtual event, and the water and fruits they donated will go a long way in ensuring that the persons who participate in the event can walk away with something.
“We’re happy that they were able to assist us and we hope that this is the beginning of a very strong partnership between our organization and the RBDF.”
The RBDF commended Lupus 242 for the work it is doing in the community and will continue to build and strengthen its community.
