Liberty University senior Denzel Pratt was one of two Bahamians to compete on opening day of the 2018 National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Track and Field Championships in Eugene, Oregon, finishing 17th overall.
Against a competitive field, Pratt broke the 65-metre (m) mark with a javelin throw of 213 feet, 10 inches. Pratt equaled Liberty’s best finish at the championships and earned honorable mention All-America recognition during his NCAA debut.
In relay action, Xavier Coakley ran a leg for Auburn University’s 4×400 team that finished 23rd overall in 3:15.78.
Both Pedrya Seymour (Texas) and Devynne Charlton (Purdue) will compete today in the women’s 100 hurdles, while Jenae Ambrose takes to the track as part of Auburn’s women’s 4x400m relay team.
