A man was shot dead by police near the busy, high-traffic area of a primary school early this morning.

The shooting took place at the corner of Collins Avenue and Wulff Road opposite Columbus Primary School.

Eyewitness News went to the scene and spoke to Assistant Commissioner of Police, Clayton Fernander, who provided the interview above to local press.

Yesterday another male was shot and killed by police after he opened fire on officers who were responding to reports of a drug exchange on Golden Circle off Cedar Way. Officers recovered an illegal firearm and one kilo of cocaine with an estimated street value of $15,000 from that scene.

Investigations are ongoing in both incidents.
