Police shoot suspect in ‘high speed chase’

Police shot and injured a man Saturday night during a ‘high speed’ chase moments after the suspect crashed into a utility pole on Prince Charles Drive.

The drama unfolded shortly after 9:00 p.m. after police say they were alerted to a suspicious vehicle from a concerned resident in Eastern New Providence.

Officers, on patrol in the area, responded and spotted the vehicle on Prince Charles Drive and ordered the driver to stop. The suspects refused and speed off resulting in a high speed chase. The occupants of the vehicle collided into a utility pole in the area if Super Value, Winton Meadows, a short time later.

One of the men was immediately taken into custody. The second suspect ran into nearby bushes, where he allegedly confronted an officer with an object. He was shot in the leg by police and taken into custody.

Officers searched the vehicle and discovered a quantity of marijuana.

Both men were taken to hospital and are listed in stable condition.

Police suspect the men to be involved in a number of recent armed robberies.

Investigations are ongoing.

In other crime news, police are asking for the public’s help in solving a late night armed robbery.

The robbery took place shortly after 8:00 p.m. on Saturday.

Police say a woman just arrived at her home in Marigold Estates when she was approached by

a male armed with a firearm who robbed her of her cash and other items before getting into a Nissan vehicle and sped away.

Investigations continue into this matter.
