Police recover nearly $290k in drugs

Two men are in police custody in connection with the discovery of nearly $290,000 worth of drugs early Wednesday morning.

According to reports, shortly before 4:00 a.m., Drug Enforcement Unit (DEU) Officers assisted by Mobile Division Officers, while at Tonique Williams-Darling Highway and Baillou Hill Road, stopped and searched a Nissan Marche vehicle with two male occupants and recovered a large quantity of marijuana.

The men were taken into custody and are expected to be formally charged later this week, police said. The drugs weight approximately 283 pounds and have an estimated street value of $283,000.

In other crime news, the vigilance and quick response of police led to the arrest of an adult male shortly after an armed robbery Wednesday evening, police said.

Police said a male armed with a firearm entered a convenience store on Bacardi Road, held an

employee at bay and robbed her of cash and other items before speeding off in a while Chevy truck.

A short time later, Mobile Division officers spotted and stopped the truck on McKinney Drive off Fire Trail Road. A male was taken into custody.

Investigations continue.
