Police recover illegal firearms in separate weekend incidents

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Police in the capital recovered several illegal firearms from the streets of New Providence in separate incidents over the weekend.

SUNDAY, MARCH 17, 2019

Shortly after 2:00 a.m. on Sunday, Mobile Division Officers, acting on information, responded to a report of gunshots on East Street north of the Independence roundabout.

Once the officers arrived in the area, a suspicious vehicle fled at a high rate of speed.

The officers perused the vehicle, which came to a stop on the East West Highway with a lone male exiting the vehicle and running into nearby bushes.

The officers apprehended the male, conducted a search and discovered a 9mm Glock Pistol with 12 rounds of ammunition.

The male was arrested and taken into custody.

SATURDAY, MARCH 16, 2019

Shortly after 1:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 16, Mobile Division Officers, while on mobile patrol in the Hope Gardens area, observed a male acting suspiciously. The officers apprehended and searched the male discovering a 9mm pistol.

The male was arrested and taken into custody.

Also on Saturday, shortly before 9:00 p.m., South Central Division Officers, while on routine patrol on Lightbourne Street in Yellow Elder Gardens, observed a male acting suspiciously.

The officers searched the male and discovered a .9mm Sigsaur pistol with 11 rounds of ammunition.

The male was arrested and taken into custody.

FRIDAY, MARCH 15, 2019

Shortly before 11:00 p.m. on Friday, Drug Enforcement Unit Officers, acting on information, conducted a search of a residence on Gum Tree Street, Pinewood Gardens and recovered a .25 Beretta pistol with eight rounds of ammunition.

Several adult males including two females were arrested and taken into custody.
