Police mount island-wide search for shooter

Police have launched an island-wide manhunt for the culprit responsible for a double shooting incident in Bain and Grants Town late Sunday night.

The shooting incident unfolded on Dorsett Alley off West Street, authorities confirmed.

It was sometime around 10 p.m. Sunday that police responded to reports of a shooting incident which left one man dead and another man fighting for his life in hospital.

Eyewitness News was the first on the scene Sunday night.

A pool of blood marked the spot where the murder victim was gunned down.

The man, who has yet to be identified by police, met his demise outside of a community mom and pop store known as  “Sister Petty’s Convenience Store.”

Police are still wrapped up in the early stages of their investigations, but Solomon Cash, Chief Superintendent of the Central Detective Unit (CDU) shared yesterday what authorities have been able to uncover so far.

“Once officers arrived they met two victims. One was shot multiple times and appeared unresponsive. The second male suffered gunshot injuries. Emergency Medical Services (EMS) was called to the scene and transported the male who was shot in the lower portion of his body to Accident and Emergency for medical attention,” Cash shared.

“The only information we are working with is that shortly before 10 p.m., both men pulled up in this area on a motorcycle and they were accosted by a lone gunman who opened fire on both males.”

The man who managed to survive last night’s attack is still in hospital and was listed in stable condition.

Cash confirmed that both men involved in last night’s incident are no strangers to police.

“The deceased is known to police, however, I will not release his identity until we notify his relatives,” Cash said.

“I appeal to members of the public, particularly those who live in this area, to contact police if they have any information that can assist us with our investigation at 911, 919 or CDU at 502-9991 or 2.”
