Police investigating 2 armed robberies, major drug bust

Police had their hands full over the weekend with two armed robberies in New Providence and a sizeable drug seizure in Andros.

According to police reports, sometime around 10:00 a.m. Sunday, a lone gunman robbed a gaming establishment on Baillou Hill Road and St. Vincent Road.

Police said the gunman held employees of the establishment at bay and robbed the establishment of an undetermined amount of cash.

The suspect fled the scene, with another male in a grey vehicle, police said.

A short time later, mobile division officers stopped and searched the vehicle.

Officers confirmed that a firearm and cash were recovered.

Police took two men into custody in connection with this matter.

Three hours later, officers were called to the scene of another armed robbery.

The second incident occurred sometime around 1:00 p.m. at a fast food restaurant on West Bay Street, police said.

According to police, the gunman held employees at gunpoint and robbed the establishment of an undetermined amount of cash.

The suspect made good his escape on foot, police said

The culprit, police said, is being actively pursued.

 

DEA assists in drug bust
Drug Enforcement Unit (DEU) officers, assisted by the United States Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA), made a successful drug seizure on Saturday, police said.

According to DEU officers, sometime around 6:00 p.m. Saturday, authorities discovered a marijuana field in bushes approximately one mile off the road in Stafford Creek, Andros.

Twenty-five hundred marijuana plants were recovered, police confirmed.

DEU officers have not made any arrests in connection with this discovery however, investigations are ongoing.
