Police investigate two armed robberies, one in custody

Police on the island of New Providence are investigating two separate armed robberies, which occurred on Monday, June 10 and Tuesday, June 11, 2019.

In the first incident, shortly after 9:00p.m. on Monday, a man armed with a firearm entered a business establishment on East Street, south of Wulff Road, and held an employee at bay.

The gunman robbed the establishment of cash, fired a shot, and made good his escape from the store.

In the second incident, shortly after 2:00a.m. on Tuesday, a man was walking on Baillou Hill Road South, when he was approached by an armed male who robbed him of his wallet, which contained cash and other items, before running away.

Police officers who were in the immediate area arrested an adult male and recovered two weapons as well as the victim’s property.

Police said a suspect is assisting police with this investigation and is expected to be formally charged before a Magistrate Court later this week.
