Police investigate spate of shootings in NP

NASSAU, BAHAMAS — Police are investigating three separate shooting incidents that occurred in New Providence yesterday.

In the first incident, shortly after before 1pm, a man was walking on Beautmontia Avenue, Garden Hills, when he heard sounds of gunshots.

Moments later he felt a sensation and realized that he received injuries to his right foot, police said.

The man was taken to the hospital by a concerned citizen via a private vehicle and was listed in stable condition.

In the second incident, shortly before 9:00 pm, a man was riding his motorcycle east along Wulf Road, in the vicinity of Rubis gas station, when he came upon another motorcycle with two occupants.

Police said as the man attempted to overtake the cycle, the passenger produced a firearm and discharged it in his direction hitting him several times before he was able to evade them.

The victim was taken to the hospital in a private vehicle, where he was listed in stable condition.

The third incident occurred shortly before 9pm when a woman and a man passenger were at a traffic light on Blue Hill and Carmichael Road, waiting for the light to change.

Police said two men on a motorcycle pulled in front of the vehicle and one man dismounted with a firearm and demanded the woman to exit the vehicle.

Upon seeing the gunman, the woman attempted to drive off, hitting the rider on the motorcycle.

The armed man however discharged the firearm in her direction, hitting her several times.

She was transported to the hospital via Emergency Medical Services where her condition is listed as guarded.

A man was arrested and is assisting police with an investigation into this matter.

Police also advised that they arrested four men on Wednesday in connection with an armed robbery.

According to reports, a man was on Marshall Road in his white Honda Civic sometime around 4pm when the occupants of a brown Nissan Marsh blocked his vehicle.

Police said one of the occupants exited the vehicle armed with a handgun and robbed him of cash and his vehicle.

The assailant then drove off at a high rate of speed, and while trying to avoid oncoming traffic, he lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a swamp.

Police said the man abandoned the vehicle and started on foot, running east along Marshall Road.

Police arrested four men a short time later in connection with the incident and investigations are ongoing.
