Police investigate apparent drowning in waters near Peterson Cay

Police on the island of Grand Bahama are investigating an apparent drowning that occurred on Monday, May 27, 2019.

According to police reports, shortly after 11:00a.m. on Monday, an American male along with family members onboard a vessel were out snorkeling in waters near Peterson Cay, when the victim reportedly began having difficulties. He was assisted by family and crew members back into the vessel and transported to Grand Bahama where he was seen by EMS personnel.

He was later pronounced dead by doctors at the Rand Memorial Hospital.

Foul play is not suspected at this time and an autopsy will be performed to establish the exact cause of death.

Investigations will continue into this matter.
