NASSAU, BAHAMAS — A woman visitor was allegedly lured away from her friends and sexually assaulted in the early hours of Sunday morning.
According to police, the woman was with friends at a local resort in western New Providence.
She was reportedly lured away from her friends and sexually assaulted by a man.
Resort security is reportedly assisting police with their investigations.
Recently released crime statistics revealed a 15 percent increase in reported incidents of rape in the country last year.
During a recent press conference on 2022 crime statistics, Police Commissioner Clayton Fernander revealed that there were 55 rapes reported last year.
Of that figure, eight of the reported incidents of rape in 2022 involved tourists.
