NASSAU, BAHAMAS — Police cited a restaurant in eastern New Providence for breach of the emergency orders.
According to authorities, officers visited the restaurant around 6pm on Sunday where there was a large gathering.
The manager was issued several fixed penalty notices for allowing patrons to enter the establishment without wearing facial masks, for not practicing social distancing, and allowing more than the authorized number of people into the restaurant.
In accordance with the emergency orders, anyone found not wearing a mask, except in certain instances such as exercising, commits an offense and is liable upon conviction to a fine of $200 and/or a term of one-month imprisonment.
According to the orders, restaurants’ maximum seating must be 50 percent of capacity and must arrange for social distancing.
Restaurants in New Providence are prohibited from inside dining.
While social gatherings at a private residence or facility up to 10 people is permitted for certain islands, social gatherings remain prohibited in New Providence.
Business establishments that allow customers to enter or remain in an establishment without facial masks can be fined $500 in the first instance with the possibility of temporary closure and a greater level of fines for further infractions.
Police pointed out the opening of bars remains prohibited and urged residents to adhere to the health guidelines to mitigate the spread of COVID-19.
“In an effort to prevent the spread of the coronavirus, the Royal Bahamas Police Force urges members of the public to comply with the requirements to wear a mask and to maintain social distancing,” police said.
