PM tours Baha Mar ahead of reopening

NASSAU, BAHAMAS —Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Dr Hubert Minnis today toured the construction site of Baha Mar’s water park, led by Baha Mar President Graeme Davis.

The $250 million-dollar water park is part of Baha Mar’s Phase II development. The family-friendly recreational area is geared toward all ages and will be heavily influenced by the natural environment. Work on the project started in November 2019 but was temporarily suspended in March 2020 due to COVID-19 before restarting again.

According to a statement by the Office of the Prime Minister, approximately 85 percent of the value of the project has been contracted to Bahamian companies; 350 to 400 Bahamians have been employed daily since the restart of the project; and it is expected that approximately 400 new jobs will be created following the opening of the water park in July 2021.

The Cable Beach resort has been closed since March due to the novel coronavirus pandemic, but will be reopening next week Thursday, December 17.
