PM condemns Robinson Road shooting, urges public to aid police

NASSAU, BAHAMAS- Prime Minister Philip Davis KC has condemned the fatal shooting along Robinson Road and Market Street that claimed the lives of two young men aged 18 and 20, and left five others in hospital, some fighting for their lives.

“Yesterday, I was briefed by the Commissioner of Police on the tragic events that unfolded,” Davis said, noting that while police are making progress in reducing overall crime and cutting off the supply of illegal firearms, there are still individuals determined to terrorize the streets with no regard for human life, even targeting innocent persons near their intended victims.

He warned that criminals often bring danger to everyone around them, and urged residents to consider that associating with such individuals could cost them their lives. Davis appealed directly to the families, friends, and associates of those responsible to encourage them to surrender to police, stressing that sheltering or protecting such individuals only helps them destroy lives and neighbourhoods — and could also lead to the protector’s own death.

The Prime Minister said he and his wife, Ann, are praying for the families affected and for the recovery of those still in hospital. He reaffirmed that the nation’s streets belong to law-abiding Bahamians and pledged that police will continue a strong presence in the area.

“If you have information, I urge you to come forward,” Davis said, calling on the public to contact police at 502-9991 or 919. “Together, we can take away the space in which these criminals operate and reclaim our communities for peace, safety, and hope.”
