Pintard criticizes government over Grand Lucayan delays, workers unpaid

NASSAU, BAHAMAS- — Opposition Leader Hon. Michael Pintard, M.P., says the Davis Administration has failed to deliver on its two major promises to Grand Bahama, calling the government’s handling of the Grand Lucayan redevelopment “four years, two promises, zero results.”

In a statement, Pintard said, “More than 200 days have passed since the government signed a Heads of Agreement for the redevelopment of the Grand Lucayan. After more than 200 days, the Bahamian people still have no timeline, no transparency, and no answers. Every serious question raised by the Free National Movement has been met with silence.”

Pintard highlighted the human impact of the delays, noting that “Grand Lucayan employees have not been paid since December 5… Workers have now gone weeks without pay during the holiday season, left anxious, exposed, and uncertain about how they will provide for their families.” He also pointed to operational issues at the hotel, adding that “water has been disconnected at the property. A major hotel in Grand Bahama is without basic utilities while staff go unpaid.”

The Opposition Leader said the ongoing impasse raises broader questions about the government’s ability to manage other promised projects, including the long-delayed Grand Bahama International Airport. “If this administration cannot manage a single property or ensure workers are paid, there is no reason for Bahamians to trust its broader promises,” Pintard said.

According to Pintard, the government has consistently refused to provide basic information on the project: “Who is actually responsible for running the Grand Lucayan? Who is responsible for paying workers and vendors? Where is the redevelopment plan? Why has demolition not begun? Why are Bahamians still being kept in the dark?”
