Despite widespread criticism over the Commercial Enterprise Bill, Labour Minister Dion Foulkes said recently that the bill is helping to increase employment in the country.
During debate on the bill earlier this year, opposition parliamentarians opined that the bill would open the floodgates for foreign labor.
However, Foulkes said, the bill has helped to bolster the struggling unemployment rate, with a number of major international companies bringing their headquarters to The Bahamas.
The labour minister said that the bill has also improved the country’s ease of doing business ranking, as various ministries now work together to ensure that applications are quickly processed.
